Although the lion's share of the orders we receive every day are for our hand-crafted flower pots, we often hear from customers who are delighted to stumble across our range of container gardening accessories. This month we're highlighting two of our favorites, and hopefully introducing you to some really great ideas.
The first of these solutions is the PotLifter. We use these things every single day in our warehouse, and they've made our lives immeasurably easier. Moving large pieces of pottery used to be a major chore, as the awkward shapes didn't really lend themselves to the "team lifting" concept that OSHA reccomends. The PotLifter is an elegant solution to a complex problem, and is saving us chiropractic bills on an ongoing basis. The nylon web straps simply slip over the outside of large pots, and the rubber grips tighten and hold the pot firmly as it is picked up.
While we probably move a lot more pots than you do, the PotLifter is a useful tool even for those who have only a few planted pots. It can also be used to lift firewood, rocks, bags of soil and dozens of other large, bulky items.
Another item our customers have been snapping up this spring is Wondersoil.
Wonder Soil® is the preferred growing media of The Flower Pot Shop. It is
a complete soil, perfect for starting seeds, potting or transplanting, Wonder
Soil includes both nutrients for plant growth and polymers to control the
release of water to the plant.
Wonder Soil is packed in a tennis ball can-like tube which contains 18
compressed soil wafers. The contents of this 18 ounce tube will expand to
approximately 15 pounds of premium potting soil with the addition of water. The
tube offers cheap and efficient packing for shipment, and is clean and easy to
store. It keeps the soil fresh, and will not mold or rot.
Wonder Soil is a very different product from the similar-looking
compressed peat and coir. Both of these products are great as soil additives,
complementing traditional potting soils, but neither offers the nurturing
environment to your plants that Wonder Soil does.
Wonder Soil also contains specific polymers engineered to retain and
slowly and evenly release water. This allows your plants to grow consistently,
avoiding the “too wet / perfect / too dry” cycle typical of traditional potting
soils. You can water up to 50% less frequently than with other potting media.
Almost all our new plantings this spring have been in Wonder Soil, and we
can tell that our plants are happy and healthy.
Wonder Soil is biodegradable, and is manufactured from renewable natural resources.
Each tube is roughly equivalent to a 15 # bag of traditional soil.
